Massachusetts Photo Challenge 
A High School Photography Competition
Entries Due by March 11, 2013 

Photography Center of Cape Cod is holding a photography competition for all Massachusetts students in Grades 9-12. 

The Grand Prize Winner will win a $500 cash prize, camera equipment from Hunt’s Camera, their winning image on the cover of a published book of images from the competition and their entry featured in an Online Exhibition. First prize, second prize and honorable mentions will also receive cash and other prizes as well as having their image featured in the Online Exhibit.

Rules and Regulations
1. Only students Grades 9-12 currently enrolled in a Commonwealth of MA high school can participate. High School Administrators will be asked to verify your enrollment. 
2. All entries should be uploaded with all of the information requested
3. All entries must be accompanied by a payment of $5/entry. A limit of eight (8) entries per student, with no more than 2 in any single category.
4. Judging will be done on the basis of creativity and artistic expression, originality and technical ability. 
5. For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject's parent or guardian and provide it to Cape Cod Art Association upon request. You do not need to submit it at time of entry. 
6. Each submitted photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant acknowledges that the submitted photograph(s) is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the photograph. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's copyright are not eligible. 
7. The photographs entered must not, in the sole discretion of Cape Cod Art Association, contain obscene, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable content. Entries deemed inappropriate will be disqualified.
8. By participating, you are agreeing to receive promotional information from Hunt's Camera.
9. To Register: 
Each entrant sets up an account on the contest registration site and registers for the show: MA Photo HS Challenge. PLEASE ADD YOUR HIGH SCHOOL NAME NEXT TO YOUR NAME. eg. Jane Doe - Hyannis HS. An email confirmation will be sent to the email address affiliated with your account.

Follow the online instructions to upload and submit images.

To submit more than three images, an additional entry form is NOT required. Simply log into your account on the registration site and select "Buy Additional Images."

Image Format
• 72 ppi resolution
• 1,280 pixels on the longest side
• sRGB or RGB color space (standard) with layers flattened
• 8 bit mode
• JPG format with compression at level 8 (at minimum)
• less than 2MB total size  

10. All entries must be submitted by March 11, 2013 at midnight.

11. Minimum amount of entries must be reached for all prizes to be awarded.

Stan Grossfeld - Photographer for the Boston Globe
Stan Grossfeld is an Associate Editor and Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist for the Boston Globe. He has traveled the word for photo projects that mirror the human condition and uncover its ills. Stan has published six books: The Whisper of Stars, Nantucket: the Other Season, Two on the River, Eyes of the Globe, Lost Futures: Our Forgotten Children and Fenway. He has won numerous awards including the World Hunger Award, two Pulitizer Prizes and has been named New England Photographer of the Year five times. His stories often include the plight of the world’s children such as When Kids have Kids, a story set in rural Maine in1996. Stan also documented the 2004 World Series run and win by the Boston Red Sox.

Francine Weiss - Photographic Resource Center, Boston University
Francine received her BA from Wellesley College in English and studio art and her PhD in American studies from Boston University. A specialist in the history of photography and American visual culture, Francine wrote her dissertation on Edward Weston’s photographs for Leaves of Grass. Prior to joining Boston University's Photographic Resource Center , Francine worked as the Acting Assistant Curator in the Department of Photographs at the National Gallery of Art, where she researched nineteenth century American and French photographers for upcoming exhibitions. Her past museum experiences include three years as a researcher and curatorial fellow at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University and two years as a graduate intern and curatorial fellow at the deCorodva Museum and Sculpture Park. At deCordova, she curated “DeCordova Collects: Gifts from Stephen and Sybil Stone,” and co-curated “Self-Evidence: Identity in Contemporary Art” and the “2003 deCordova Annual.” Francine also teaches art history at Wellesley College.

Henry Horenstein - Photographer and Professor at RISD
Henry Horenstein, born in Boston, is an American artist photographer. Henry Horenstein has worked as a photographer, teacher and author since the early 1970s. He is the author of over 30 books, including a series of photographic textbooks that have been used by hundreds of thousands of students over the past 30 years. In 2003, Chronicle Books published Honky Tonk, Horenstein's documentary survey of country music during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Honk Tonk was also presented as an exhibition by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in 2006. His work has been collected by many institutions including the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, Washington, D.C.; the George Eastman House, Rochester, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Library of Congress; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. Horenstein currently lives in Boston and teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design. His work is represented by Gallery 339 in Philadelphia, PA.
